Books for the Holidays

Something we're all thinking about as we attempt to sell our favorite books of the year in 30 words or less, right?

A mom on one of my listservs pointed out that a lot of kids don't like to receive "just" a book. (If they are friends with writers like these, I can't blame them. I don't want a book from them, either! Except maybe Sarah Waters.) So the Children's Book Review put together a list of titles along with toys and other things that go well together.

Not a bad idea, really. I wonder what we could suggest for some of our titles - When You Reach Me = diamond ring, clearly. Little Oink = cup of dirt. Rhyming Dust Bunnies = Little Tykes vacuum cleaner....

It's a sweet idea. This might be a good fundraising idea for the Friends--themed book baskets that we raffle off/sell.

If you like that list, check THIS one out! MotherReader has been blogging book/gift ideas for several years now. Check out her ideas. I think she's unveiling a new list of 2009 books soon.
(I'm sorry, but I don't know how to do a hyperlink in the comment box!)
