So I did 2 brand new picturebooks in my preschool STs this morning, both of which worked well. The Foggy Foggy Forest (Sharratt, of Shark in the Park fame) uses vellum/wax paper (or something like that) to great effect. The recto shows a silhouette (in the "fog") and asks, "what can this be in the foggy, foggy forest?" The verso then reveals a funny image with an accompanying rhyme ("Goldilocks with a candy box"). This book turned out to be very interactive, and a lot of fun to do.
Wow! Said the Owl (Hopgood) is a quieter story about a young owl who takes a nap at night so she can stay awake all day
. She is wowed by all the colors present in the world during sunlight hours, seeing leaves, sky, clouds, butterflies, and (of course) a rainbow, among other things. The illustrations are the best part of the book, suitably wowing in their depictions of the wide-eyed owl and his world. This story worked ok for 3-5 year olds, but I think it would be perfect for 2-3 year olds.

Do you think you could use Foggy Foggy Forest with 2 year olds?
Hmmm. Not sure. I'm a bit dubious because a lot of the fun comes from the kids already being familiar with the fairy tale characters/elements, plus some of the language/concepts would be too much for a lot of 2s ("ogre doing yoga", for example), plus how much guessing would 2s even do?
